US Secretaries of State and Defense are in Delhi. So is Ambassador Peter Haas An Indo-US mini-summit is being held to discuss mutual problems aspirations and solutions. China and Bangladesh are essential issues here. Hasina's brutal autocracy and growing Chinese influence in the Indo-Pacific region have been common concerns for the US and India. And Hasina's allowing China into Bangladesh's economy and defence has been a growing concern for the US and India. Although India prefers Hasina's Awami League to Khaleda's BNP to run Bangladesh it can't afford China breathing on its shoulder from across the common Indo-Bangladesh border. This is what is going to seal Hasina's fate eventually. Not only the UN/ US/ UK/ EU and other Western allies have been critical of Hasina's draconian domestic and foreign policies but Western media outlets have also been highlighting the flagrant violations of human rights to the detriment of democracy and good governance in Bangladesh. Of late, the Guardian has published an article, "Full Prisons and False Charges: Bangladesh Opposition Faces Pre-election Crackdown" highlighting the arrests of around 10000 BNP supporters in the country between 28th October and 9th November. It also points out that Bangladeshi prisons are full of BNP supporters on false charges and the opposition is likely to face a pre-election crackdown by the Hasina Regime. Seemingly Hasina will face concerted Western opposition which will eventually unseat her from power.
