It's Time to Nominate Khaleda Zia for the Nobel Peace Prize
Former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia of Bangladesh is a prisoner of conscience serving an 18-year-long term under the brutal dictatorial regime of Sheikh Hasina since 2018. Needless to say all her charges are fabricated unsubstantiated and vindictive to the extreme. She is grievously ill still in home imprisonment without access to standard medical attention. She needs immediate medical attention at a world-class hospital unavailable in Bangladesh. If she dies in custody without proper medical care or as we have reasons to believe by slow poisoning by Hasina's prison authorities that would be a significant violation of human rights and every individual's right to proper medical attention. Khaleda Zia's death in custody would amount to yet another killing of a political dissident in Bangladesh a la Sergei Magnitsky's killing in detention by the brutal Putin Regime in Russia. Given this I urge all human rights activists and organizations to register their concern for the immediate release of Khaleda Zia and allow her to go abroad for better medical attention. Last I believe it's time to nominate her for the Nobel Peace Prize to vindicate the cause of peace and justice from a global perspective. I think Khaleda's getting the Nobel Peace Prize would advance the cause of democracy freedom and human rights worldwide particularly in Bangladesh.
